Katya Giritsky was born in Hong Kong to Russian parents who had the day before caught the last scheduled flight out of Shanghai before the communist forces took the city. When she was two and a half, her family immigrated to the U.S., settling in Pasadena, CA, where she grew up. She attended the University of Southern California, earning degrees in English and law. While still an undergraduate, she studied poetry with Donald Davie. Her work has apeared in numerous publications. “hungry women are empty/ in ways only emptiness comprehends// they can take you to places inside yourself/ you never even dreamed of/ they can touch you in ways/ that bring tears to your eyes”.
